India vs West Indies – Semi Final – ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2016

The head-to-head record between India and West Indies in Twenty20 internationals is an even 2-2. The teams haven’t met since 2014, and ahead of the their semi-final match-up on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium there are many match-ups that could a vital role in deciding which way the pendulum of fortune swings. Nehra, 37, has made a habit of striking during the Powerplay since he returned to the team in January. His left-arm pace has troubled all teams he’s bowled against this year, and Gayle has singled Nehra out as the bowler to be wary of, apart from R Ashwin. In his T20I career, one that spans 48 matches, Gayle has been dismissed by left-arm pace bowlers just five times. Gayle’s approach in the IPL is generally to take time to get going and then tee off, and considering he’s batted just once since that whirlwind 47-ball century against England on this time ground, he may want to see off Nehra.

India vs New Zealand,ICC World T20, 2016, 13th Match, Super 10

Nagpur: The superb build-up run has made India the clear favourites for an unprecedented second World Twenty20 title but the in-form hosts will have to guard against complacency when they take on a spirited New Zealand in their campaign-opener here on Tuesday.

No host country has won the T20 world title in the last five editions and none has repeated a title triumph, but India’s settled combination, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and familiarity with the conditions make them the odds-on favourites to script history.

The 2007 Champions, India go into the Super 10 Group 2 clash against New Zealand with their tails up as the number one ranked team in the world.

India have been on a roll in the shortest form of the game, winning their last seven outings which included a 3-0 whitewash of World 50-over champions Australia in the latter’s backyard.

They then went on to win the Asia Cup on a canter after beating Sri Lanka at home 2-1.

The five consecutive wins in Dhaka, including in the summit clash against Bangladesh that led to their continental supremacy in the T20 game, has given the team a huge morale boost.

However, Dhoni’s men will be wary of the fact that they have never beaten New Zealand in T20s in four outings in the past including once during their stunning title run in the inaugural edition in 2007 in South Africa.

Top 10 Double Saves In Football

The FA Cup Fifth Round tie between Tottenham and Crystal Palace is all about one man: Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togolese striker’s return to White Hart Lane is probably the most exciting aspect of the entire FA Cup weekend – and not simply because there’s likely to be bad blood between the home fans and the Palace new boy. It’s because Emmanuel Adebayor is, well… Emmanuel Adebayor. In the football world, the former Arsenal and Real Madrid man is a truly unique individual. So unique, in fact, that we have started to see a striking similarity between Adebayor and another divisive character: Kanye West.

Nawayug shrestha “flying kick volley shot”

Nepal Army player Nawayug Shrestha has been the talk of the town after his magical goal helped Nepal beat India 2-1 in the 12th South Asian Games football final to win gold for Nepal after a gap of 23 years.
Last time Nepal won a gold medal was at the 1993 SAG held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Similarly, Nepal entered the final this time after 17 years. Previously, Nepal had secured the final spot at the Eighth SAG held in Nepal in 1999. Nawayug, who hails from Deumai Municipality-4 in Ilam district, scored the gold-winning goal in the 70th minute when the two teams were 1-1.
Born on June 8, 1990, Nawayug has not come into the limelight just for the SAG victory. He has been the backbone of his team, with Nepal claiming two titles within a month, and he was also the key player with Tribhuvan Army Club that finished runner-up in the National League held last year.
Before winning the SAG football title, Nawayug had shown his prowess during the Bangabandhu Gold Cup that Nepal claimed on January 22.
Nawayug was at his best in all the matches he played in SAG, scoring two hat-tricks, although these will not be recognized internationally as the teams involved are U-23.
However, his hat-tricks helped Nepal beat Bhutan 5-0 in the group stage and produce a 4-3 win over Maldives in the semifinal, to fix the final match against host India.Nawayug was the highest scorer in SAG, with seven goals.

Surprisingly, his first international hat-trick for Nepal was also against Maldives. Nawayug had scored the hat-trick during the semifinals of the Bangbandhu Gold Cup where Nepal beat the opponent 4-1.He was top scorer in Bangabandhu with four goals to his name.Nawayug was likewise the highest scorer in the national league, with 14 goals. Army Club finished the competition in second position.

Nepal’s football gold a welcome distraction

Nepal beat perennial rivals India 2-1 in their own backyard to win football gold at the 12th South Asian Games on Monday. The victory ended a 23-year wait for gold in football at the regional Games. It has come as a big relief to Nepali football that was dogged by corruption scandal and match-fixing of late.

On December 4, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) imposed a life ban on five Nepali footballers, including skipper Sagar Thapa, vice-captain Sandeep Rai and goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa, for their involvement in match-fixing.

On November 16 last year, Fifa banned All Nepal Football Association (Anfa) President Ganesh Thapa for 10 years from all football-related activities after the Ethics Committee of the game’s world governing body found his involvement in bribery and corruption scandals. Many football critics believe the ouster of Thapa from Anfa has brought about the success in international arena.

“Credit goes to the players for their remarkable performance but also to Fifa for its intervention to rid the game of menace game in Nepal,” said Purushottam Shrestha, who was at the helm of Anfa when Nepal were last crowned the SA Games champions in 1993.
“The recent results tell all the tales. We never had a dearth of football talent but he [Thapa] hand-picked players, depriving talents like Nawayug Shrestha of chances.”

Fifa’s action against Thapa, who had been at the Anfa helm since 1995, came at a time when corruption in football has been making headlines all over the world. The Fifa committee banned its president Sepp Blatter and Uefa head Michael Platini for eight years on December 21 last year, exposing the vicious network within the world football. Both men were cleared by the Ethics Committee of corruption charges but found guilty of a series of other breaches including a conflict of interest and dereliction of duty. Amid the storm of controversy, the Nepali football team under new captain Biraj Maharjan lifted the Bangabandhu Gold Cup in Dhaka on January 22. The 3-0 victory over U-23 Bahrain team in final was Nepal’s first international triumph since 1993.

The women’s team remained unbeaten in the five-team round-robin league to finish first ahead of India, while the men’s team finished runners-up in group stage and almost squandered a 2-0 first-half lead before Nawayug Shrestha scored two goals in three minutes in Sunday’s semi-final victory over Maldives in extra time. The women’s team is playing fifth final in six years, while the men’s team is in final after 17 years. Shakya said he would go with full strength against India despite having some
injury concerns to striker Bimal Gharti Magar, midfielder Anjan Bista and goalkeeper Bikesh Kuthu. “Doctors have given green light and we do not have choice to play.” Shakya said of Kamal Shrestha, who was expelled in the semi-final match, would be missed in defense. “We shifted Anjan Bista in the defense after Shrestha received red card and the midfielder did full justice to the new role.
